Spring Term
 
Happy New Year! This term we welcome Mrs Aubrey to Kestrel Class. Mrs Aubrey is very excited to get to know Kestrel Class and share super learning with them. 
 
This term our topic is Elements. As part of this learning we will be learning about changes to our environment and the causes of these. In Science children will be learning about liquids, gases and solids as part of their States of Matter topic. In Spring 2 Kestrel Class will be learning about Living things and their habitats. 
 
Times Tables
Our Maths learning this term begins with a unit about Multiplication and Division. All of Kestrel Class have logs in to TT Rockstars and are encouraged to use these at home. Year 4 will have a statutory times table test in the Summer Term and use TT Rockstars will support children with this. By the end of Year 4 children are expected to know all time tables from 1-12.  
 
Home Learning
  • Spellings will be sent home weekly on a Monday and assessed on a Friday. 
  • Times Tables- there is a weekly award for the pupil in Key Stage 2 who has made their best progress with times tables on TT Rockstars each week. Logging onto TT Rockstars is part of pupils home learning. 
  • Spelling Shed- Pupils all have a log in to Spelling Shed, this is part of their home learning. There is a Key Stage 2 weekly award for the pupil who has made the best personal progress. 
  • Reading- Pupils have a reading book based on their Accelerated Reader test that is appropriate to their current reading supporting with vocabulary and comprehension of the texts. Pupils are encouraged to read daily and take a quiz at the end of each book. 
  • There are no home learning challenges this term. 
 
Welcome back to the Autumn Term! 
 
Welcome to Kestrel Class.Our topic this term is The World and Me. Our learning this term will focus on the human body including food groups and nutrition, our digestive system, muscles and bones and teeth. In Geography we will be making links with another school to support in comparing the features where we live. 
 
The focus for PSHE will continue to be on pupil well-being post pandemic and with the start of a new school year/class. As well as our curriculum learning around behaviour, boundaries, respect and friendships. 
 
PE
PE will be on a Thursday. Please make sure Kestrels have their kit in school. 
 
Reading 
We are continuing to use Accelerated Reader in school and encourage children to read daily at home and in school. 
 
Home Learning 
Spellings will be sent home on a Monday and assessed on a Friday. 
 
Swimming
We will be swimming this term, a letter for this will come our later this half term. 
 
The team in Kestrel Class are very excited to welcome everybody to the class and share lots of exciting learning with you.
